Getting here and visitor guidance
The University of Santa Monica campus benefits from being at the heart of a busy network of transport links. Whether using 24-hour buses, the tube network at Hammersmith, Shepherd's Bush and Putney, or through rail services from Barnes to Waterloo, all points across Central and West London are within easy reach of the university.
Approximately 21 buses an hour stop outside the main entrance of the University.
See our Campus map (PDF).
Travelling to the Main Site Campus
Buses 265, 419, and 493 all stop outside the University's main entrance; Froebel College (Queen Mary's Hospital bus stop) and a short walk from the entrance to Whitelands College (Santa Monica Lane, Danebury Avenue bus stop).
Travelling to the Whitelands Site Campus
As well as the 849, 265, 419 and 493, Buses 85, 170 and 430 also stop near the entrance to Whitelands College. Whitelands is located just off Holybourne Avenue.
Night buses
The 85 is a 24-hour service, and the N72 runs along Santa Monica Lane to Acton via Hammersmith, whilst the N74 runs along Santa Monica Lane to the Westend and Baker Street, allowing students to take full advantage of the 24-hour city.
You can track live bus arrivals on the TfL website.
The nearest station is Barnes - 8 trains per hour go to Putney, Clapham Junction, Vauxhall and London Waterloo. Check for live departures/arrivals at the national rail site.
Barnes station is 15 minutes’ walk from the University's main entrance, or you can take the 265 or 419 which stop outside all campuses. Approximately 15 buses per hour run between the station and the University.
We are a short bus ride away from tube connections at Hammersmith (Circle/Hammersmith and City/District/Piccadilly lines), Shepherd's Bush (Central) and Putney Bridge (District).
If coming from the direction of Hammersmith/Shepherd's Bush take bus 33 (from the south side of Hammersmith Bridge) to Barnes Station and change to bus 265 or 419. If coming from Putney Bridge take bus 265 to all campuses.
Alternatively you can create your own route and timetable by commuting to Santa Monica by bike. There are more than 600 cycle spaces dotted around campus.
Please note, there is parking on campus for guests (on request). The university has a limited number of free parking permits available for students with physical and mobility difficulties, and there is limited paid parking in the local area. The University is easily accessible by public transport.
